Preposition หรือคําบุพบท เป็นคําเชื่อมเพื่อบอกตําแหน่ง เวลา และสถานะ โดย Preposition จะต้องตามด้วยคํานามหรือคําที่เทียบเท่าคํานามเสมอ เช่น Gerund ในหัวข้อนจะกลาย preposition 3 ประเภทที่มักพบบ่อยๆ ในข้อสอบ ได้แก่
1. Preposition of Time (บุพบทบอกเวลา)
คือ คําบุพบทที่บอกเรื่องของเวลา ที่มักพบเป็นประจําได้แก่คําเหล่านี้
At ใช้กับ
- เวลาตามหน้าปัดนาฬิกา เช่น At 10:00 o’clock
- คําว่า Noon, Night, Midnight
On ใช้กับ
- วัน เช่น On Monday, On Sunday
- วันที่ เช่น On 25 September
- เทศกาล เช่น On Songkran, On Christmas
In ใช้กับ
- เดือน เช่น In December, In March
- ฤดู เช่น In Summer, In winter
- ปี เช่น In 2012, In 1990
- ใช้กับช่วงเวลาของวัน เช่น In the morning, In the afternoon, In the evening

นอกจากนี้ยังมีคําว่า Since (ตั้งแต่) ซึ่งใช้กับเวลาที่มีการระบุเจาะจง เช่น
- She has studied English since 2010.
เธอเรียนภาษาอังกฤษมาตั้งแต่ปี 2010
For (เป็นเวลา) ซึ่งไว้ใช้ระบุช่วงเวลา ว่าเหตุการณ์นั้นเกิดขึ้นมานานแค่ไหน เช่น
- She has studied English for five years.
เธอเรียนภาษาอังกฤษเป็นเวลา 5 ปีแล้ว

2. Preposition of Place (บุพบทบอกสถานที่)
คือ บุพบทที่แสดงความสัมพันธ์ในแง่สถานที่ ที่มักพบเป็นประจําได้แก่คําเหล่านี้
At ใช้กับ
- ที่อยู่ เช่น At 55/33 Sukhumvit Road
- สถานศึกษาทั้งหลาย เช่น At school, At College, At university.
- สื่อความหมายว่าอยู่ที่ไหน เช่น I’m at the lobby.
On ใช้กับ
- ถนน เช่น On Sukhumvit Road
- ชั้น เช่น On the fifth floor
- สิ่งที่อยู่บนการขนส่งสาธารณะต่างๆ เช่น On train, On bus, On
- สื่อความหมายว่าอยู่บนอะไร เช่น The book is on the table.
In ใช้กับ
- เมือง เช่น In Bangkok
- รัฐ เช่น In Utah
- ประเทศ เช่น In Thailand
- ทวีป เช่น In Asia
- สื่อความหมายว่าอยู่ภายในอะไร เช่น
