วันนี้เราจะมาดูกันค่ะว่า คำว่า “Put” ซึ่งตามด้วยบุพบทต่างๆ ไม่ว่าจะเป็น put on, put in, put up, put away และอื่นๆ เป็นต้น ความหมายจะเปลี่ยนไปยังไง เดี๋ยววันนี้เรามาดูกันค่ะ
1. Put up with sth/sb = cannot suffer with something/ somebody.
ไม่สามารถทนต่ออะไรบางอย่างหรือใครบางคนได้
ตัวอย่างเช่น
I won’t put up with her laziness.
= ฉันจะไม่ทนกับความขี้เกียจของเธอ
2. Put somebody up = to provide someone with a place to stay temporarily.
ให้ที่พักกับใครสักคนชั่วคราว
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Sally is putting me up for the weekend.
= แซลลี่ให้ที่พักกับฉันสำหรับสุดสัปดาห์นี้
3. Put something on = place a garment, glasses, or jewelry on part of one’s body or cause a device to operate.
ใส่เสื้อผ้า ใส่เเว่นตาหรือเครื่องปรับบนร่างกาย / ทำให้บางอย่างมันทำงาน
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Julie puts on a cotton dress.
= จูลี่ใส่ชุดคอตตอน
shall I put the light on?
= ฉันเปิดไฟได้ไหม?
4. Put somebody off = to make someone dislike something or someone, or to discourage someone from doing something.
ทำให้ใครบางคนไม่ชอบบางอย่าง หรือตัดกำลังใจในการทำอะไรบางอย่าง
ตัวอย่างเช่น
The smell of hospitals always puts me off.
= ฉันไม่ชอบกลิ่นโรงพยาบาล (กลิ่นโรงพยาบาลทำให้ฉันรู้สึกไม่ชอบใจ)
5. Put something away = to put something in the place or container where it is usually kept
ใส่บางอย่างกลับลงไปที่ที่มันเคยอยู่ เก็บเอาไว้ หรือเอาออกไปเก็บที่เดิม
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Ex: Put your toys away now. เอาของเล่นกลับไปเก็บที่เดิมเดี๋ยวนี้
6. put sth in/into sth = to spend a lot of time or effort doing
something.
ใช้เวลาหรือความพยายามในการทำอะไรบางอย่าง
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Ex: If I put in some extra hours today, I can have some time off tomorrow. หากว่าฉันใช้เวลา (ทำงาน) เพิ่มขึ้นเป็นพิเศษพรุ่งนี้ฉันจะสามารถลาได้
7. put sth into sth = to give money or effort to an activity.
ให้เงินหรือความพยายามกับกิจกรรมบางอย่าง
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Ex: We put all our profits back into the company. เราเอาผลประโยชน์ทุกอย่างกลับมาให้บริษัท
8. put something to someone = to tell someone your explanation of something.
เพื่ออธิบายบางอย่างให้ใครสักคน
ตัวอย่างเช่น
Let me put it to you this way – you’ll fail the test if you don’t study.
= ฉันขออธิบายคุณวิธีนี้แล้วกัน หากคุณไม่อ่านหนังสือคุณจะสอบตก
