A lot of / Lots of + ได้ทั้งคำนามนับได้ และ คำนามนับไม่ได้
+ คำนามนับได้ (countable noun) หมายถึงของสิ่งนั้นมีจำนวนมาก และต้องใช้กับคำนามพหูพจน์เท่านั้น + Verb ที่ผันตามนามพหูพจน์ด้วย เช่น
A lot of guests have come to my house.
หรือ Lots of guests have come to my house.
+ คำนามนับไม่ได้ (uncountable noun) หมายถึงของสิ่งนั้นมีปริมาณมาก และต้องใช้กับคำนามเอกพจน์เท่านั้น + Verb ที่ผันตามนามเอกพจน์ด้วย เช่น
There is a lot of water in the dam.
หรือ There is lots of water in the dam.
อย่างไรก็ตาม อย่างที่ได้กล่าวไปข้างต้นว่า การใช้ Lots of นั้นค่อนข้างมีความสับสนสำหรับผู้ที่ไม่ได้ใช้ภาษาอังกฤษเป็นภาษาแม่ ดังนั้นเพื่อหลีกเลี่ยงความผิดพลาด จึงแนะนำให้ใช้คำเหล่านี้ทดแทน
Much + uncountable noun
เช่น I don’t have much time.
Many + countable noun
เช่น Many people have come to my house.
* Much และ Many จะเป็นทางการมากกว่า A lot of และ Lots of และมักใช้ในภาษาเขียน
A plenty of + uncountable and countable noun
เช่น A plenty of water, A plenty of books คำนี้ค่อนข้างเป็นทางการเช่นกัน
