ในประโยคบอกเล่าถ้าพูดถึงเอกพจน์หรือสิ่งที่นับไม่ได้ จะใช้ There is เช่น
There is a spider on the table. มีแมงมุม(ตัวเดียว)บนโต๊ะ
There is water in the glass. มีน้ำ(นับไม่ได้เพราะเป็นของเหลว)ในแก้ว
ถ้าพูดถึงพหูพจน์หรือสิ่งที่มีมากกว่า 1 จะใช้ There are เช่น
There are three children in the park. มีเด็ก 3 คนในสวนสาธารณะ
There are many students in the class. มีนักเรียนหลายคนในห้อง
สังเกตว่าแปลโดยใช้คำว่า “มี” เพื่อให้เข้าใจหลักการใช้เวลาแปลเป็นภาษาไทย ประโยคนี้ไม่มี has/have มีแต่ is/are แสดงความเป็นสถานะในการ ”มี”

Is there a security guard in the shop? – Yes, there is.
Are there any polar bears in Antarctica? – No, there aren’t. (Any ใช้กับ ปฏิเสธ+พหูพจน์)
Is there any ice-cream in the freezer? – Yes, there is. (Any ใช้กับ ปฏิเสธ+นามนับไม่ได้)
