เวลาเพื่อนๆต้องการสิ่งใดเรามักจะใช้คำว่า Want หรือ Need จนเคยชิน แต่เพื่อนๆรู้หรือไม่ว่าเรามีคำศัพท์ที่ฟังดูสุภาพและเรามักจะเห็นในข้อสอบภาษาอังกฤษ เช่น ในการสอบ TOEIC บ่อยๆด้วย นั่นคือคำว่า Would like
ถึงแม้ว่าคำว่า would จะมาจากคำว่า will (เป็น verb อดีตของ will) แต่ความหมายคำว่า would like ก็ยังคงไม่เกี่ยวข้องกับ will

กริยาคำว่า Would like ต้องการ Object(กรรม), Gerund(กริยาที่ทำหน้าที่เป็นนาม), an infinitive(คำขยาย, to + v1) ตามหลังเสมอ เช่น
- I would like a new computer. (ฉันอยากได้คอมพิวเตอร์ใหม่)
- a new computer = object
- He’d like a new job. (เขาอยากได้งานใหม่)
- A new job = object
- They’d like playing game. (พวกเขาอยากเล่นเกม)
- Playing = Gerund
- I would like swimming. (ฉันอยากว่ายน้ำ)
- Swimming = Gerund
- He’d like to find a new job. (เขาอยากจะหางานใหม่)
- To find = infinitive
- She’d like to have boyfriend. (หล่อนอยากมีแฟน)
- To have = infinitive.

และไม่ว่าจะประธานจะเป็นคำเอกพจน์หรือพหูพจน์คำว่า would ก็ยังคงรูปเดิมเสมอ

Would like = do want
- What would you like on your pizza? = What do you want on your pizza?
- (คุณอยากใส่อะไรเพิ่มบนหน้าพิซซ่า)
- Would you like to go out tonight? = Do you want to go out tonight?
- (คุณอยากออกไปเที่ยวคืนนี้ไหม)
- Would they like to go to the park? = Do they want to go to the park?
- (พวกเขาอยากไปสวนไหม)
- What time would you like to leave? = What time do you want to leave?
- (คุณอยากออกเวลาไหน)
- How many pieces of chicken would you like? = How many pieces of chicken do you like?
