ใกล้จะวันคริสมาสต์ที่หลายคนรอคอยกันแล้ว ปีนี้อยากขอพรอะไรกับคุณลุงซานต้า ลองมาขอเป็นประโยคภาษาอังกฤษกันก็ดีนะ มาดูโครงสร้าง Wish กับการขอพรจากลุงซานต้ากันเถอะ
Wish เป็นได้ทั้ง Noun และ Verb
- Wish ใช้เป็น noun
Wish เป็นนามที่นับได้ หมายถึง ความปรารถนาที่จะเป็น จะมี หรือให้เกิดบางสิ่งบางอย่างขึ้น เช่น
It’s important to respect the wishes of the majority.
Despite her wish to continue working , she was forced to retire at the age of 65.
Best wishes for a happy retirement!
2. Wish ใช้เป็น verb
2.1 ที่สามารถตามด้วยกรรมทั้ง 2 ตัว คือ กรรมตรงและกรรมรองดังตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้
I wish you luck in running this business.
(you) กรรมรอง (luck) กรรมตรง
He wished her a happy retirement.
(her a happy) กรรมรอง (retirement) กรรมตรง
2.2 wish + that-clause ใช้เพื่อแสดงความเสียใจ ( หรือเสียดาย ) ที่เหตุการณ์ไม่ได้เป็นไปอย่างที่ปรารถนา
I wish (that) I lived nearer to my office.
( = I’m sorry that I don’t live near my office )
2.3 เราอาจใช้ wish + infinitive ได้ และมีความหมายเช่นเดียวกับ want + infinitive หรือ would like + infinitive
I wish to send this not to him as soon as possible.
We do not wish to work here any more.
2.4 บางครั้งเราอาจใช้ would + verb ใน that-clause เพื่อแสดงความรู้สึกขุ่นเคือง ไม่พอใจ วิตกกังวล หรือหงุดหงิด เนื่องจากเหตุการณ์มิได้เกิดขึ้นหรือมิได้เป็นไปอย่างที่ต้องการ เช่น
I wish (that) he would give me the answer.
( = I’m sorry that he doesn’t give me the answer. หรือ I wish he gave me the answer. )
I wish (that) you would try to understand.
( = I’m sorry that you don’t try to understand. หรือ I wish you understood. )
ข้อควรระวังในการใช้คำกริยา Wish
- เมื่อประธานของ that-clause เป็นเอกพจน์ เช่น I , he , she , you หรือ นามเอกพจน์อื่นๆ คำกริยา Be จะอยู่ในรูปของ were เช่น
- Sometimes I wish ( that ) I were not married.
- He wished ( that ) he were a little boy.
2. เราไม่ใช้ wish เมื่อความปรารถณามีความเป็นไปได้มากที่จะเกิดขึ้นในอนาคตแต่เราจะใช้ hope ดังตัวอย่างต่อไปนี้
- I hope ( that ) you’ll graduate with good grades.
- I hope ( that ) we’ll meet again.
3. เมื่อ wish อยู่ในรูป past tense คำกริยาใน that-clause ก็ยังคงเป็นรูป Past tense เช่น
- He wished he knew.
- (= He was sorry that he didn’t know)
